Habsburg Glory (1500s-1600s)
Under Habsburg rule, Graz flourished as a cultural and political center. The city became the capital of Inner Austria, attracting artists, scholars, and builders who created the stunning Renaissance architecture still visible today.
Modern Era
Graz evolved from imperial city to industrial hub, surviving wars and transforming into Austria's vibrant second city. In 1999, the historic center was designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and in 2003, Graz became the European Capital of Culture.
